Rhode Island financial and legal documents collection, circa 1715 - 1836

The Rhode Island financial and legal documents collection comprises approximately 1350 discrete documents from the Colonial and Early Republic periods. The bulk of these materials are financial in nature and describe contractual agreements between individuals, organizations, and colonial and state agencies including the Rhode Island General Treasurer, General Assembly, and Governor, or agents thereof. Although arranged in forty-two series, nine constitute the vast majority of the collected documents: accounts, bills, bonds, certificates, letters, mortgages, orders, receipts, and oversize materials. The oversize materials comprise, with few exceptions, mortgages.
